Methodology
A benchmark index, not a survey.
These figures are compiled from public coach rate cards, marketplace and directory listings, and training-facility pricing across the United States, then normalized to a 60-minute private session for an established coach at the US national average. Ranges show the spread we observe around each midpoint. Experience and length multipliers are applied consistently across sports, and location is applied using the Bureau of Economic Analysis’s Regional Price Parities (US = 100). All figures are rounded to the nearest $5. Your real rate depends on demand, results, and brand — use these as a floor to price up from, not a ceiling.

By session length
Shorter sessions, higher effective rate.
Price scales with time on the clock — but not linearly. A 30-minute session is priced above half an hour’s rate, and a 90 sits below a straight 1.5×. Example on the median $75 hour.

FAQ
Common questions
- What is the average rate for a private coach in 2026?
- The median rate for a 60-minute private coaching session in 2026 is about $75 at the US national average for an established coach. Across sports the midpoint ranges from roughly $65 (track & field) to $120 (golf), with individual sessions running higher or lower based on experience, location, and length.
- How much more can an experienced coach charge?
- Experience is the single biggest lever on price. An elite or specialist coach commands roughly 35% more than an established coach for the same session — on the median rate, that's about $100 versus $75. A newer coach typically starts below the established rate while building a reputation.
- Do coaching rates change by city and state?
- Substantially. Rates run highest in expensive metros like Miami, FL — about 14% above the national average, roughly $85 on the median session — and lowest in affordable states like Arkansas, about 13% below. We localize the national benchmarks by state and metro using the Bureau of Economic Analysis's Regional Price Parities; enter your ZIP in the rate calculator to get your local number.
- How was the 2026 Private Coaching Rate Report compiled?
- This report is a rate benchmark index, not a survey. National figures per sport are compiled from public coach rate cards, marketplace and directory listings, and training-facility pricing across the United States, normalized to a 60-minute private session for an established coach. Geographic figures apply the Bureau of Economic Analysis's Regional Price Parities (US = 100) to localize by state and metro. Ranges reflect the spread around each midpoint; a coach's real rate depends on demand, results, and brand. All figures are rounded to the nearest $5.
